If there's anything good about me, you're the only one who knows.

Today's Recommended Listening: Offend in Every Way - The White Stripes
If you don't like the song, I don't care.
In fact, I hope you don't like it.
I hope it pisses you off a little.
That seems to be what I'm good at.

Today's Recommended Listening: Plage - Crystal Fighters
'La Plage' is french for 'the beach'

He looks serious! You better do it.

His only goal is a shark casserole

Today's Recommended Listening: Shark Fighter - The Aquabats
Ok, so they may not be your first choice in music,
but humor me for a minute and consider this:
First off, ska is one of the most under-rated genres of music.
It's always peppy and upbeat. Next time you are in a foul mood
from a bad day, throw on some Save Ferris or Smash Mouth.
It only takes a song or two to turn that frown upside down.
Even the most melancholy ska bands like Streetlight Manifesto
and Cake will leave you with a more pleasant disposition.
Sometimes we start to take our music too seriously.
Too many mainstream artists trade whatever integrity they
had at the start for more popularity.
Too many musicians flaunt an over-inflated view of what they do.
It wears on the soul, man. So many people trying so hard to be fake.
Not these guys. What you see is what you get.
Goofy songs about fighting sharks, spiders driving dune buggys, or secret agents.
They sing about whatever they want, no point, no purpose, no hidden agenda.
Another reason ska is so under-rated is because of brass section.
"They don't give a damn, bout any trumpet playin band.
That ain't what they call rock'n'roll."
You gotta respect the amount of talent that goes into that level
of instrument diversity. It really fills out the sound of the band.
I was in a restaurant the other day, when Peaches by
the Presidents of the United States of America came on.
I couldn't believe I was hearing it in public. It made my day!
But the people I was with had no idea what I was so excited about.
I witnessed a once in a lifetime event, a shooting star, and they missed it.
The shareef may not like it,
but sometimes you just gotta rock the casbah.

I ain't fakin this.

Today's Recommended Listening: Shut Up and Let Me Go - The Ting Tings
Show of hands, who remembers 2008?
Anyone?...
Anyone?...
...
Bueller?
Bueller?
Bueller?
Fry?
Fry?

I know it. I think I know it from a hymn.

Today's Recommended Listening: Seven - Fever Ray
This song snuck in when I wasn't looking and now I can't get it to leave.

Good Luck finding this one

Today's Recommended Listening: Nadzieje sieje (łąka) - Gooral
Randy, this one's for you brother.
Dubstep Flute.

Find more artists like Rondo Sztuki at Myspace Music

Falling deeper by the hour

Today's Recommended Listening: Tonight - Lykke Li
She's from sweden, not hawaii. I know... I'm disappointed too.

My Last Request

Today's Recommended Listening: Last Request - Paulo Nutini
Just heard this song for the first time today.
It's good. I know how he feels.

Monday, August 29, 2011

That's not where milk comes from...

Today's Recommended Listening: Keyboard Milk - Röyksopp
These guys have been one of my favorite bands for a while now, and they just won't stop making awesome music.

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

I think it's gonna be a long, long time...

Today's Recommended Listening: Rocket Man - Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Covers can be fun, too.

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

As effective as chewing bubble gum.

Today's Recommended Listening: Everybodys Free (Sunscreen Song) - as read by Baz Luhrmann, written by Mary Schmich
I have to listen to this song a few times a year. Just to make sure I stay on track.

Yet another OST

Today's Recommended Listening: Escape 700 - Chemical Brothers
HANNA is a movie you may or may not hear much about.
I saw it, it was ok. Not really my thing. The movie feels to much like a fairytale.
I like something a little more grounded, nevertheless. The soundtrack was created by
a dynamite electronica group called the Chemical Brothers. They have original beats and a very
middle eastern feel to their songs. I enjoy them and I think you should too.

I'm Just Bein' Honest

Today's Recommended Listening: Hey Yeah - Outkast
This is and always will be, a fun song.
It's amazing that it became as popular as it did, considering the beat signature bein' all weird and what not. Also, there is no need to 'shake' a Polaroid picture. It does nothing to assist the development process, and it makes you look silly. So stop it.

Thursday, April 7, 2011

Love me now or love me not!

Today's Recommended Listening: Volcano - Jimmy Buffett
My parents are shameless parrot heads.
My dad used to play this song when I was a kid, and I never knew what it was.
Scarred for life, with a song I'm forced to love.

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

I scream at the top of my lungs: What's going on?

Today's Recommended Listening: Superfly - 4 Non Blonds
Ok. Lemme level with you for a second.
I was hanging out at the record store (yes, people actually do that)
when I came across this cd. It had a name of a band I've never heard,
and there was a train on the cover. SOLD! I didn't know what I had bought
at the time, but when I dusted off my CD player and turned it up,
I was magically transported to a time when flannel was king.
A time when Presidents sang about peaches and lots of people
smelled sex (and candy)... it's 90's. that what I'm trying to say.
Remember the 90's. Yay.

Also, click the picture for extra bonus!!!

Uhg, lazyness, I'll come back and fix it later

Monday, March 28, 2011

You better make up something quick.

Today's Recommended Listening: Heart - Barracuda
Shifting gears a little bit back to the past.
I've always had a thing for rocker chicks.

Fact: There are Nine artists with this name.

Today's Recommended Listening: Genesis - Justice
If you have a surround sound or even just a woofer, you better turn it up,
because it's time to face JUSTICE

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Oh Mothers, Tell Ya Children, not to do the things I've done.

Today's Recommended Listening: House of the Rising Sun - Idris Muhammed
This seed has been growing in me for about a month now.
HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS GUY?
Anyway, enjoy what is arguably the BEST cover of the BEST song ever.

Summer Madness

Today's Recommended Listening: Summertime - DJ Jazzy Jeff (and the Fresh Prince)
It may be a little too early (or is it?)
Just a little something to break the monotony of all that hard core dance that's gotten to be a little out of control. It's cool to dance but how bout a groove that soothes and moves? Romance.

Remember when we'd hear the distant sound of human life?

Today's Recommended Listening: Vision One - Röyksopp
This is one of my top 3 Favorite bands.
Have you ever found one of those albums where every single song was awesome?
This band has not one, but TWO such albums.
Melody AM
Junior - The album Vision One is on.
I like this song for many reasons,
the lyrics strike me, the rhythm suits me, and the sound effects intrigue me.
It was described to me as the sound of 'someone playing a comb as an instrument'.

There was a time when all the shadows of these tall buildings
Would throw their cape around each corner of the grassy field
And one by one, each new shade, would cover the green way back;
Allowing changes that we could not have foreseen

Everybody let us gaze upon the world we created
And let's rest our eyes upon the great machine, as we wave goodbye
Feel the evening breeze caress your smile, the cities are dying
As we watch it fall to a modern state, a modern time

Remember when we'd hear the distant sound of human life?
A zillion noises whip our eyes that travel through the sky
And one by one, each little sound, has faded away with time,
Allowing changes that we could not have foreseen

Everybody let us say goodbye to all our notions.
'Cause there's not enough to say that we're humane, when we're left behind
It's too late to think that we can worship human emotions
'Cause we've already evolved into machines, in our minds

Shame on You

Todays Recommended Listening: Tron Legacy Theme - Daft Punk
I've got some bad news folks. The much anticipated Tron Legacy Soundtrack sucks.
In my opinion. Daft punk failed to deliver. This song here, the Tron Legacy Theme, isn't even on
the soundtrack. The soundtrack is 95% orchestral (just like any other movie) with some
'variations on a theme' type remixing from daft punk. The opening song is the best on the
album, it's all downhill from there. Shame on you Daft Punk, you got lazy.
They should have given the soundtrack to Royksopp or Jusctice, you know? At least
they would have appreciated the challenge and spotlight.
Giving Daft Punk the Tron soundtrack was like giving Donald Trump $100 bucks,
they just didn't appreciate it.

The Return of OST week

Today's Recommended Listening: Time - Hans Zimmer - Inception Soundtrack
Apparently, I didn't get it all out of my system, not quite yet.
Here is another timeless track from Inception

The Less We Say About It The Better

This Must Be The Place (Native Melody) - Talking Heads
Good ol' song.

Monday, March 21, 2011

You Shant Escape

Today's Recommended Listening: All Mine - Portishead
I've done a real disservice to Portishead AND TO YOU by not
featuring more of them on this blog. I'm sorry Portishead AND YOU,
I'll make it up to you. I promise.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

You ain't just whistlin dixie

Today's Recommended Listening: Alpha Beta Gaga - Air
Apparently, the music video for this song is a serious piece
of sub culture that every 'off-beat' should know.

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Enjoy the perigee full moon tonight.

Tonight's Recommended Listening: Beethoven "Moonlight" Sonata op 27 # 2 Mov 1,2 - Valentina Lisitsa

Doing Exactly What a Coward Would Do

Today's Recommended Listening: A Martyr for My Love For You - The White Stripes
A lot of people don't like the stripes, they argue that music should be more complex.
I used to feel that way too, but the more I listened, the more I was wrong.
Also, Jack White and Meg White are not brother and sister. I don't know where that
rumor started. Jack and Meg are ex husband and wife. Jack took Megs last name because
he thought 'it sounded cooler'. That's the story.

My Grandma, What big headphones you have...

Today's Recommended Listening: The Wolf - Fever Ray
Continuing with OST week, here is a song for a movie that came out this week.
Fever ray is a band that I've been listening to more and more lately.
So when I heard that they are releasing a new song to be used in the movie
'Red Riding Hood' I figure I'll feature it here. Let's see if it can stand
on it's own.

Friday, March 11, 2011

I too, know Kung Fu

Todays Recommended Listening: Clubbed to Death - Rob Dougan
Neo, were you listening to my blog entry about the Matrix OST, or looking at the woman in the red dress?

Thursday, March 10, 2011

snake? Snake? SNAAAAAAKE!

Today's Recommended Listening: Track 3: Gekko - Metal Gear Solid 4 OST
Why do they moo? Who in their right mind decided it would be good for them to moo?

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Gotta Go Deeper

Today's Recommended Listening: Dream is Collapsing - Hans Zimmer
I've been listening to a lot of OSTs lately.
So I think this is going to be SOUNDTRACK WEEK!
Let's dive right into a dream within a dream.
Here's the main theme from the inception soundtrack.

Monday, February 28, 2011

never never never never never never be

Today's Recommended Listening: Beast of Burden - Rolling Stones
The rolling stones are a cultural landmark in America in
that they will never die. Our children's children's children
will still be able to see Mick Jagger perform live.

Friday, February 25, 2011

If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air,

Today's Recommended Listening: At the River - Groove Armada
I honestly couldn't decide between the live and studio version.
Heads: Feature the Studio version
Tails: You get a link to the live version.

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Maybe it would help if I filed things alphabetically...

Today's Recommended Listening: The 10th Sense - Athome Project
I've been on an electronica kick lately.
Royksopp, Massive Attack, fever ray, ladytron, daft punk, justice, zero 7, blah blah blah
I found this song, and many others, through last.fm.
But this song stands out as my favorite.
Plus the 'Sim City 2000'-esque keyboard synthesizer really takes me back. Ya know?
Anyway, this song was not easy to find. I looked EVERYWHERE,
I am a professional Googler, if I can't find it, it doesn't exist.*
Frustrated, I tracked down the artist.
Athome Project is Stian Jacobsen from Stord, an island outside Bergen in Norway.
I contacted him without leaving my overstuffed armchair. Isn't the internet awesome?
You may never enjoy this song as much as I do, but
if you have a favorite band, take a minute to thank them,
send them an email or just post on their wall.
Let them know how much you enjoy their music.
It is awesome when they respond back to you personally.
Also, you never know when they'll send you a link to
download a previously unreleased track for free.

The people thought that they were just being rewarded

Today's Recommended Listening: Sleeping In - The Postal Service
Certainly there are better postal service songs, but
since it hit 70 degrees today, it seemed oddly appropriate.

Sunday, February 13, 2011

So If you're lonely

Today's Recommended Listening: Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
You: "I already know this song!"
Me: "Me too, ain't it great? Shut up and leave a comment!"

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Crop Circles on the Carpet

Today's Recommended Listening: Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap
Now for a minor note. This song is haunting.
It's all in the effect that she uses.
Of course the lyrical mastery is also... well.. what did she say?

Anyone who is a regular to this blog knows that I'm a fan of Scrubs.
So see if you see what I saw at the beginning of this live version that
really made me say: WTF MATE? If you do a little research about him,
you'll understand why he's there.

Friday, February 11, 2011

The crowd will only like me if they're really bleepin drunk.

Today's Recommended Listening: In One Ear - Cage the Elephant.
Here is a band that did everything Bass Ackwards.
They hail from Bowling Green Kentucy, but their success blew up in England.
Go Figure.

Thursday, February 10, 2011

How can you say forever is at your command?

Today's Recommended Listening: Palm of Your Hand - CAKE
This is one of my favorite bands.
Certainly one of my favorite Ska bands.
I like how he sings as if he is only talking.
He has his own awkward rhythm that you won't find anywhere else.

What? It's not working?
Here's a classic example of YouTube being stupid.
This video worked 3 days ago,
now ALLOFASUDDEN it is banned content?
Bullcrap youtube. Now I'm mad.
So not only did I find somewhere else to host this song,
but I'm also giving you a link to download it if you wish.
Enjoy!

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Hurry boy she's waiting there for youuuuu.

Today's Recommended Listening: Africa - Toto
Hardly a rare song, but it never get's old. Yeah!

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Strum Strum Smack Strum

Today's Recommended Listening:
Porch Swing - Trace Bundy
off his album 'Adapt'.
I mention it because this is one of those rare albums where
every song is five stars. I highly recommend it if you can find it!

Monday, February 7, 2011

See if you can figure out what they're saying...

Today's Recommended Listening:
So Easy - Röyksopp
This song is a personal favorite.

Sunday, February 6, 2011

I Never Had To Knock on Wood

The Impression That I Get - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
This one should take you back.
I love this song, it never gets old.

I like it so much in fact, that I'm giving you a double dose of the Bosstones today!

Thursday, February 3, 2011

It's pronounced boo - chur

Changes - Butterfly Boucher feat. David Bowie
It's pronounced boo - chur, she's from Australia, not France.
Also, this song may be on Shrek or something.

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Lets get wet!

I Love the Rain - The Real Tuesday Weld
-featured in a car commercial recently.
