I just Go.

Today's Recommended Listening: I Go Hard, I Go Home - The Presets
Mmmm, that's some good techno. And that shouldn't come as any
suprise, because they toured with Daft Punk.

Thursday, September 30, 2010

I'm runnin and I won't touch ground.

Today's Recommend Listening: Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride
I love this catchy, stupid song.

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Wish I could stay sick with you.

Today's Recommended Listening: Foo Fighters - Generator
YES, MOAR Foo Fighters. If you continue to complain about it,
I'll play foo fighters tomorrow too. So humor me, mkay?

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Learn from your mother or you'll spend your days biting your own neck.

Today's Recommended Listening: Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man
I would like to point out that I prefer the clean version of this song.
Take that however you want it. If you prefer excessive cursing then
HERE is what Cee Lo Green has to say about that.

Monday, September 27, 2010

If this is paradise, I wish I had a lawn-mower.

Today's Recommended Listening: Talking Heads - Nothing But Flowers.
David Byrne is one rad dude.
You should expect to see a lot more of them on here.

aaaand... We're Back!

Today's Recommended Listening: The Go! Team - Huddle Formation
Ok, so I've been taking a little hiatus.
In the mean time, I've discovered a lot of great music
that I can't wait to share.
Check out The Go! Team, every single song is a hit.
You make recognize some of their music from the
now world renowned 'Impossible Quiz' by Splapp-me-do

Monday, August 9, 2010

You didn't bite a face, nope, just a mask, so Happy Halloween.

Today's Recommended Listening: Guilty Cocker Spaniels - Modest Mouse
Well, I've got good news and bad news.
The bad news is that I haven't updated in several months.
[sad face here]
Good news is I've discovered a wealth of new music to put here.
Hopefully I can make my self do it.
I've got a lot to share.

Psychological Easter Eggs

Today's Recommended Listening: WAIT Not so fast!
I have a story to tell first.
When I was a kid, my parents gave me a stereo that played
cassette tapes and records. I had plenty of tapes, but no
records. I still remember seeing the turning table for the
first time. I remember the loud echoing pops that came
from dragging the needle across random objects. Eventually,
my curiosity got the better of me and I asked my dad for
some records. He had a large collection, and he barely used
them. At the time, I didn't understand why he gave me 3
Christmas records, a Bobby McFerrin record, and some
record with a dragon on the front.
I listen to them for a while but thought it was a joke.
Why would my dad give me these terrible records? Are these
the ones he didn't want? Years passed, the records faded into
obscurity. I don't even know where that player is today, but
I doubt it still works.
Then a few weeks ago I was reading XKCD when I found this strip.
That's hilarious, the dad acutally planted a
psychological 'easter-egg' haha. So glad my parents weren't
smart enough to do that to me....
Then I heard a song I hadn't heard in years...
It instantly took me back. I didn't even have time to pass
judgement. I had to listen, I was compelled to like it.
Bump, Bump Bump, CLAP!
Do you remember when we used to dance?
Bump, Bump Bump, CLAP!
And incidence arose from circumstance.
Well, I GUESS THE JOKES ON YOU DAD! CAUSE NOW I FRIGGIN LOVE ASIA!

Reluctantly Crouched at the Starting Line

Today's Recommended Listening: The Distance - Cake
It's wayyy past time I got some Cake on here.

Between Supposed Lovers

Today's Recommended Listening: Schism - Tool
I'm not a big Tool fan.
But I can't get enough of this song.
What's up with that?

Anywhere I Go, There's Always Something To Remind Me

Today's Recommended Listening: Remind Me - Röyksopp
I'm in a weird mood. You can Google Royksopp, can't you?
You should look them up. They definitely have some good music out.

He Came From a Land Down Under

Today's Recommended Listening: Overkill - Colin Hay
This song was featured on Scrubs.
Colin Hay is also know for his singing in the Men At Work band.

Story of my weekend. It's a good thing.

Sounds Like Heaven to Me

Today's Recommended Listening: Summerland - Everclear
I catch myself singing or thinking these lyrics all the time.
I think it is part of the human experience to want to explore.
Hey, you know the grass is always greener on the other side.
Anyway, this song is off the sparkle and fade album.
Grab it if you ever get a chance, the entire album is great.

I Really Think So

Today's Recommended Listening: Turning Japanese - The Vapors
A fun little song from 1980.
The only place it ever reached #1 was in Australia.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Like A DEUCE

Today's Recommended Listening: Blinded By the Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band
Originally by Springstein, this song didn't take off until Manfred released a cover
in 1977 which quickly reached number one on the charts. Manfred Mann's Earth Band
is also known for the song Do Wah Diddy Diddy (Diddy Dum Diddy Do).

Ok, time to clear the air. The line in question is "revved up like a deuce"
Deuce is slang for a 1932 Ford Model B automobile, otherwise known as a deuce coupe.
Got it? Good. Now Enjoy.

Time For Some Techno

Today's Recommended Listening: Ultrasonic Sound - Hive
There are doors I haven't opened;
windows, I've yet to look through.
Going forward may not be the answer.
Maybe I should go back.

A Hard Pair We Will Be

Today's Recommended Listening...
Uh... It's rockband.
It's also South Park.
It's even Lady Gaga.
This is kinda like a joke.
Ok, this is completely a joke.
But it is soooo funny.

Ok, so there is this episode of southpark about 'Whale Wars' a whale fishing
reality show on the Discovery channel. In this episode, Cartman and Kenny are
shown playing rockband, but the song they are playing is Lady Gaga's Poker Face.
It was supposed to be a joke, but then Rock Band decides to actually release the
song with Cartman singing it online as downloadable content. It is hilarious.

The Russian Rick Roll

Today's Recommended Listening: Trololo
I'm not gonna try and prank you.
No I'm going to leave the pranking to you my friend.
To help you stay ahead of the curve,
this is what they are using for the new rickroll.
Since it's from Russia, it is commonly known as 'the Russian Rick Roll'
Enjoy

I Ain't No Stranger

Today's Recommended Listening: Can't You Hear Me Knockin - The Rolling Stones
Great song.
I love love love the stones.
You should expect to hear a lot more of them on here.

We're Not Gonna Live In Fear

Today's Recommended Listening: Uhhhh?
What was I doing again?
Sorry, I got a little side tracked.
Instead of regular music today, head over to my
esnips account and download a couple ringtones I made.
Hope you enjoy them.

When the Morning Comes

Today's Recommended Listening: This Too Shall Pass - Ok Go
Yeah, this band is quickly becoming a favorite,
simply because of their amazing viral music videos.
I love a good meme.

Monday, March 8, 2010

It Just Might Be A Lunatic You're Lookin For

Today's Recommended Listening: You May Be Right - Billy Joel
It should be be fairly obvious by now that I have
a certain affinity for the 'I'm Crazy' songs, in addition
to my love of 'Nobody Gets Out Of Here Alive' songs.
Hmmmm, maybe that's a bad sign?

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Gimme Hot HOT Love

Today's Recommended Listening: Around The Bend - The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
Yes, I know this song was featured in an iPod commercial.
Matter of fact, that's where I first heard it.
The difference is, that I searched and learned a lot about this band.
I actually listened to more of their music, and became a genuine fan.
You, on the other hand, saw the commercial and said,
"Hmm, that's catchy." and proceeded to do nothing about it.
Enjoy.

Don't Fear the Cowbell, Fear the Walken

Today's Recommended Listening: The Reaper - Blue Öyster Cult
HOLY CRAP! This song has a lot of history.
This song was the inspiration for an
SNL sketch that aired on April 8, 2000.
This skit featured many on the SNL cast (including Will Ferrell)
pretending to be BOC during a recording session for The Reaper.
Also, Christopher Walken played the recording artist 'Bruce Dickenson'
In case you were ever wondering, America's obsession with Chris Walken, Will Ferrell, and Cowbells all come from this video.
More recently, this song was featured in both Guitar Hero and Rock Band
(It was such a good song, they had to use it twice)

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Show Me Where To Look, Tell Me Will Love Be There?

Today's Recommended Listening: Shine - Collective Soul
Great Song, I love the guitar riff.
I'll never forget the first time I heard it.
It was 5 something in the morning.
My radio alarm clock was going off.
At first I thought it was a dream.
As I listened I decided to immediately
get up and learn the riff on my guitar.
Good song.

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

GOJIRRA! AHH NOUUU! ITZ GOOOOJIRRA!

Today's Recommended Listening: Godzilla - Blue Öyster Cult
Ahh yes, the 1970's, I don't remember them at all.
But I love this song, I love the low slung, Black Sabbath worthy guitar riff.
Right out of the gate this song is a hit.

By the way, that little Ö character is called an Umlaut.
They added it "because of the Wagnerian aspect of Metal."
From a linguistic viewpoint, this might instead be regarded as a diaeresis.
Many bands have since imitated BOCs Umlaut in their own names.
Motörhead, Mötley Crüe, Queensrÿche, and Spinal Tap.
I thing it is just another example of BOC being ridiculous.

If I Ever Get Outta Here, I'm Givin It All Away

Today's Recommended Listening: Band On The Run - Wings & Paul McCartney
It's time for this blog to take a decidedly upbeat turn.
Brush it off, Brush it off.
I love this song, it's like 3 songs in one.
Plus, I imagine that this is the kinda song where
the live version would blow the studio version out of the water.

Monday, February 22, 2010

The World Was On Fire, No One Could Save Me But You

Today's Recommended Listening: Wicked Games - Chris Isaak
Wow, I'm going through a bit of a blue period arn't I?
Don't worry, I promise it won't last long.
Depressing music is like antifreeze.
It tastes delicious but too much can be fatal.

Friday, February 19, 2010

4 Walls follow me through my past

Today's Recommended Listening: Metro - System of a Down
This is UNRELEASED System Of A Down.
In my opinion, one of their better songs.
It definitely showcases their many musical talents.

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Gimme Stitches Now or Never

Today's Recommended Listening: Gimme Stitches - Foo Fighters
How can you go on when you're murdering someone? Killin' me like you do.
I love the way this song sounds. What effect is he using on the lead guitar?
It's almost like a shiver chorus pedal or something... hmmmm.
Listen for it to start at 0:20
(Please don't say 'distortion' cause then I'd have to say 'Really?' O_o)

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Dirty Water, I ain't Drinkin No More

Today's Recommended Listening: Dirty Water performed by John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers
There is also a decent version performed by Shemekia Copeland.
It's definitely not the original but unfortunately, I couldn't find the original.
Please excuse John Mayall, as he is 70 years old at the time this was recorded.
Shemekia is a little younger, but she isn't a very good singer.
If you know where I can find a better version of this song, let me know ok?

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Tell me are you a bad fish too?

Today's Recommended Listening: Badfish - Sublime
It is impossible to pick a single sublime song to put on showcase.
I'll start with Badfish.
The story of Bradly Nowell, the lead singer of Sublime is remarkable.
I recommend you read the Wikipedia entry or something.
Sublime is a band that rose to fame postmortem.
That alone should spark your interest.

NINJA ATTACK!!!

Today's Recommended Listening: Peaches - Presidents of the United States of America
Well, the presidents are being really lame today.
The Youtube video has embedding disabled,
and the audio quality is crap on every other copy I could find.
If I feel generous I'll pirate the video and put it up on my Esnips account.
If not, well then, you'll just have to click the peaches and see what happens.
Enjoy.
P.S. Watch out for Ninjas.

She Lingered Last In Line For Brains

Was she a zombie? The answer is no... and..well, YES! She's LUMP!
Today's Recommended Listening: Lump - Presidents of the United States of America
This is one of my favorites. Yeah!
I can listen to this crap all day and not get tired of it.
You may be more familiar with the weird al cover 'Gump'.
I encourage you to look it up, after you catch up on my blog of course.

Anytime She Goes Away

Today's Recommended Listening: Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Ok so there's this new video game coming out.
It's called 'Dante's Inferno' and the commercial for it
is one of the most haunting pieces of advertising I've ever seen,(since the gears of war commercial back in 2006)
I even went so far as to track down the exact version used in the background.
It's very short, only 2 minutes which only adds to it's mystery.
Bill Withers wrote this song in 1971, making it one of his earliest hit singles.
He is also famous for Lean On Me and Just the Two Of Us

HAY HAY HAY HEEEEYYY!

Today's Recommended Listening is Don't You by Simple Minds
You might recognize this song.
I can't seem to get it out of my head.
I can't forget it. It's 80s-tastic!

Find a queen without a king

Today's Recommended Listening: Going to California - Led Zeppelin
This is one of the greatest songs ever written.
If this doesn't move you then you may be physically attached to the floor.

An amazing Zep song done in true Blues style

Bron-Y-Aur Stomp

Today's Recommended Listening: Bron-Y-Aur Stomp - Led Zeppelin
It's a toe-tappin good time.

Yay! Led Zeppelin Week!

Today's Recommended Listening: Fool In The Rain - Led Zeppelin
So this starts my Led Zeppelin week, I think we'll all agree that they deserve a week. They have enough songs for Led Zeppelin Year,
but we'll start with a week and see how that goes.

Fool in the Rain is one of the greatest songs of all time.
There is just so much going on in this song.
The music is amazing,
the lyrics are incredible,
and the singing is beyond reproach.
You'll have to listen several times to get the full effect.

Making Up For Lost Time

Today's Recommended Listening: Strange Brew - Cream
Here's a good one. I could write pages about Cream, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce, but I'll spare you the details. You can look it up yourself. In the meantime, enjoy this funky groove.

By the way, next week will be Led Zeppelin Week.

You Burnt My House Down Then Got Mad At My Reaction

Today's Recommended Listening: Double Day!
1. Effect and Cause - The White Stripes
2. I'm Slowly Turning Into You - The White Stripes
The White Stripes. You either love em or hate em. Some argue that an infant could create more complicated music, but who said music has to be complicated? Let me tell you something, Jack White and David Grohl are the two most diverse artists that currently walk the planet. You shouldn't judge either of these artists based on a single one of the bands (oh yes, they are in more than one band) so do a little homework huh?

Effect and Cause - The White Stripes

I'm Slowly Turning Into You - The White Stripes

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

You Wasted Life, Why Wouldn't You Waste The After-Life?

Today's Recommended Listening: Ocean Breathes Salty - Modest Mouse
Maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both grow old. I don't know, I don't think so.

Friday, January 15, 2010

It's the Only Way to Fly

Today's Recommended Listening: Travelin' Light - Widespread Panic
This is off their 'Light Fuse and Get Away' album. Amazing album if you ask me.
I love this band, but they're an acquired taste.
It's a Jam band for those who don't know.
Much like Jimi Hendrix, Widespread Panic never plays a song the same way twice.
Just listen and you'll see what I mean.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Wait, Wait A Minute

Today's Recommended Listening: Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia) - Us3
Yep, it's an old song and a remake, originally called Cantaloop Island by Herbie Handcock. I also have several other covers of this song in my collection, but personally, I think Us3 nailed it.

I Know Exactly How It Will End

Today's Recommended Listening: Every Day is Exactly the Same - Nine Inch Nails
It's a little bit depressing, but I think you can handle it. Besides, good music moves you to identify with the musician. Good music effects you emotionally, and that is not always in a positive way.

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

My Theory Isn't Perfect But It's Close

Today's Recommended Listening: Wet Sand - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Something about this song, I just listen to it on repeat.
Especially from 3:40 to 5:10 (the last minute and a half)

Thursday, January 7, 2010

My Eyes Are Blind But I Can See

Today's Recommended Listening: Snowblind - Black Sabbath
This is one of my favorite cold weather songs. If you ever get a chance to buy their
"We Sold Our Souls For Rock and Roll" album, buy it, it's a really good one.

System Of A Down did a cover of this song, it's a lot faster though, so I guess it depends on what kinda mood you're in to decide which one you like better. Personally, I like Sabbath's version better, I like the 'mellow'.

I'm Coming Back To Life

Today's Recommended Listening: Wearing the Inside Out - Pink Floyd - The Division Bell
I'm sure the entire Division Bell Album will make it on here eventually

You Used To Think That It Was So Easy

Today's Recommended Listening: Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
HOW IS THIS SONG NOT ON HERE YET???
The Foo Fighters also did an excellent cover of this song.
