You know I watch that rotten box until my head begins to hurt.
I first heard this song on Alice Coopers nightly radio show.
This song was incredibly difficult to find because this is not their most famous version of this song. In my opinion, this is the best version.
This genre is considered 'experimental rock'

I Don't Think That I Can Take It

This has been a week full of Mondays. So far, my November is off to a rough start. I picked this song because nobody reads this crap anyway, so I might as well stop trying to pander.

Recorded and Released in the late 1960's, this is one of the older songs you'll find on my blog. Fortunately, it was way ahead of the times. MacArthur Park is also one of the least understood songs of all time, consequently, many people consider it to be on par with the macarena. Most of you will remember Richard Harris as being the original Dumbledore in the first Harry Potter movie.


It's about a lost love, a failed relationship, by the way.

I don't really know what to think of this song, other than I like it.
When I listen to this song, I imagine an abandon oil rig in the middle of the ocean at night. Somewhere within the bowels of this rig, a vengeful spirit is awakened. This ghost then destroys the oil rig from the inside out. Fire and explosions set off in series, lighting up the night sky. In the middle of nowhere.

I'VE CREATED A MONSTER!

Arguably the greatest song of all time, certainly one of my top 3 favorites.
The story of Frankenstein (as I know it):
When a band puts out an album, they typically pick the best song to play on the radio, this song, by itself is called a 'single'. Well, back in the day, when a single was released, it would arrive at the radio stations in the form of a small vinyl record, and the DJ's would play the record on the radio. Well, the single only takes up one side of the record, so the musicians would also pick a song to put on the other side (side B) which is where we get the term 'B-side'. They did this so as not to waste an entire side of a perfectly good record. The B-sides were typically a song that wouldn't have mass appeal, but the musicians liked it for personal reasons. Sometimes, the B-side didn't even make it to the final cut of the album.
Example, Nine Inch Nails 'With Teeth' album. I have the 'Hand that Feeds' single on vinyl, and the b-side is a song called home, that didn't even make it on the album.
Back to the story, Frankenstein was originally released as the B-side to a song called Hanging Around. When DJs heard Frankenstein, they realized that it was the real hit, and started flipping the records over. Hanging Around has faded into obscurity but Frankenstein still plays loud and strong all over the country.
Go Figure.
The song itself has no vocals, and is the first hit song to feature a synthesizer as the lead instrument. The Edgar Winter Group (originally called White Trash) is headed by front man Edgar Winter himself. The song was christened 'Frankenstein' during the mixing stage of the music. They played and recorded the song without ever having a name. Back in the day, everything was recorded onto magnetic tape. Think of a cassette tape without the cassette. Yeah, it was a mess. They had bits of song strewn all across their mixing studio. They quickly realized that they had 'created a monster' and so decided to call the song 'Frankenstein'. Can you imagine having to mix all this stuff manually? Neither can I. Old musicians really put a lot of work into their music. Nowadays, anyone can make music, and the radio waves are flooded with crap. It is for all these reasons, plus the awesome magnificence of the song itself, that makes Frankenstein my favorite song ever.


Another point of interest is the albums cover art. Which I will not show as it can be quite disturbing. You see, Edgar Winter is an albino, which catches many people off guard just by his appearance. He takes this to a whole new level by dressing in drag for the cover of his album 'They Only Come Out at Night'. I think it is hilarious, and slightly disturbing.

Usually I try to stay away from songs like this
if I could express this kind of song in tags, they would be:
grunge, nu-metal, emo, whiny, 90's - 00's,
it is a whole genre of music that all sounds the same
Everything from Creed to Slipknot is what my sister refers to as "Butt Rock"
This one is an exception. A guilty pleasure?
Plus, I've always had a strange fascination with clock towers
and their untimely demise. (Not sorry for the pun)
Irregardless. This is a good song with an interesting video.

Heavy Metal Symphony

Lance Lenhart - Twisted Metal Symphony (Valley of the Kings)
This song hails from an old Playstation 1 game called "Twisted Metal 3"
It can be heard during the 'Egypt' Level, but this song goes beyond video game greatness.
I believe this song can be used to spice up any situation that calls for a little badassery.

I choose this song to christen my new house "Paradise"
The song applies, fits very well actually.
For me, Paradise is situated between a liquor store, a porn shop, and a topless lounge.
Right on the whoriest street in my town.
Obviously it wasn't my first choice, but the price was right!

Recently I purchased the Dookie album on vinyl. One of the cooler things I've ever bought. When I play Green Day, I play it LOUD. You could hear it clearly from outside the house, so I'm hoping that the house is now infused with "Welcome to Paradise" from rafters to floorboards.

Excellent song, it's one of those songs that just sorta sticks with you.
OR more likely, it is the song you've heard once or twice on the radio.
It caught your attention, and you craved to hear more, but here's how it happens:

1 minute after song - "OH MAN OH MAN, I'm totally gonna download this when I get home!!"

5 minutes after song - You are still trying to hum the lyrics so you don't forget them. After all, you have no clue what the bands/songs names are.

15 minutes after song - You can remember 2 words from the song. Those 2 words are not consecutive and you can't remember how the song goes anymore.

Several hours after hearing song - you get home, space out, and completely forget to look up that catchy song that you've forgotten all the words to anyway.

Next day - "I feel like I'm forgetting something..." but then again, you always feel like that, don't you?

Week and a half later - You hear the song again, and the process repeats.

This song stops me in my tracks, every time I hear it.
I can't tell if it is out of sadness, happiness, or just the love of this song.
Regardless, it is one of my top 10 favorite of all time.

A sad song set to scenes from an even sadder movie. We can't control the bad things that happen to us in life. What matters is how you respond to them, that makes all the difference. "The Fountain" is a prime example of how a poor response to a bad situation can rend your world asunder. I do not recommend watching this movie. The song however, is excellent.
